La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum
|
|
The La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum was established in 1997 for displaying local and national quilts and textiles. A community of quilters acquired a historic mansion and sponsors exhibits of quilters and fiber artists. For more details on this interesting museum, visit their web site at http://www.laconnerquilts.com/.
Every year it sponsors a quilt walk in La Conner, where over 50 stores in the town make room to display quilts from September 1 to October 14. This year they invited WSQ to be their featured guild. Many of our members have generously responded by offering their wall hangings to be shown. We have set up a registration process: forms are available at July’s meetings or call Annie Sanders (509-481-8986). Details are on the registration forms and information for the sleeves and hanging rods are on the back of the forms.
In a very generous gesture, Pat Means has volunteered to pick up the quilts the day after they are taken down and bring them to Spokane just in time to display them in our own quilt show! Winnie Thurstan has, with her usual “can do†attitude, promised to find space. They will be hung together in space available as the “La Conner Walk†designation and will not be included in categories for votes or ribbons. They will be available for pick-up after the quilt show along with other quilts that are in the show.
In addition to the Quilt Walk, the museum sponsors a Quilt Festival that features several events, including a judged quilt show. Events are from October 5 to 7. Further details of this event are available on their web site.
