Friday, April 27, 2012 - Combining Hand Sashiko and Applique
Choose one design from Sylvia's Sashiko Sea Life Sampler quilt and learn the fine art of hand Sashiko & how to en-hance it with a bit of appliqué. Discover how to easily transfer designs onto dark fabric, the best material, thread and needle options for Sashiko, and techniques for perfect stitch length, curves and corners. She says "Try my favorite press over heat resistant Mylar method of appliqué or as an option, use machine fusible appliqué. I will have samples of both methods, but will demonstrate the Mylar method." Your
block can be made into a pillow top, handbag, wall hanging, or a big quilt.
Choose one of the following sea life sashiko designs from her website, www.sylvia-pippen.com: Dolphins, Hawksbill Honu, Sockeye Salmon (shown here), Manta Ray, Tako (Octopus), Swordfish, Lobster, 3 turtles, or Hammerhead shark.
Patterns only: $10.50 - Kits: $24.00 Kits include: 1 sea life pattern, instructions, 18" x 18" Moda marble cotton panel, blue batik for appliqué, 1 sashiko needle, thread, and white transfer paper. Tropical Flowers Sashiko Sampler Workshop

The Saturday, April 28, 2012 class will be similar to the description above with the panel of your choice coming from the Tropical Flowers Collection on Sylvia’s website. As and as with the Fri. class, you will need to purchase a specially designed-for-us kit or pattern from Sylvia’s e-mail or by phone. Kits are $37 and patterns are $10.50. Please go to her website, www.sylvia-pippen.com, to see her work and pick your favorite design. Pick ONE from Plumeria (shown here), Anthurium, Angels Trumpet, Bird of Paradise, Ginger, Heliconia, Hibiscus, Lotus, or Moth Orchard.
